Registration in Abu Dhabi
« on: January 06, 2011, 04:16:11 PM »

Hi!

I bought a bike from Dubai and I did all the paperwork to export it to Abu Dhabi. I am planning on insuring and registering the bike here in Abu Dhabi next week. What documents do I need to take with me to the registration office? I have the Certificate of transfer from RTA and I'll get the insurance certificate from AXA, plus my driving licence. What else do I need to take into account?

I'm grateful for all hints and advice!

Hi!

No, I didn't get export plates. I would've ridden the bike here, but the seller and guys at the RTA inspection office told me that bikes can't get expoert plates. True?

Hi Kombi, if you are employed you will need a NOC from your company to register in the Abu Dhabi Emirate,

@kombi
if the bike was imported from outside u have to get:
1:paper of cutoms  with the stamp
2:transfer document from the rta sharjah if the importer is in sharjah or rta Dubai if the importer is located in Dubai
3:selling contract from seller
4:licence
5: insurance
if the bike was allready registered in Dubai or sharjah it will be very simple u only need to transfer it from the rta

Hi!

Thanks for the hints! The bike has been registered in Dubai, so the registration should be easy. A little problem came up today: I found out I have a BIG amount of SALIK fines I need to pay before I can register the bike. I'm running out of cash! When I came to the country I didn't have a clue about any SALIk-tag, so I drove my car for six weeks before realising I need one. Even the car dealer said nothing. Oh well, you need to pay for stupidity.

Yippee!

I got my bike registered! Paid all my Salik fines first, and registration was really easy.  It's time to enjoy!

Hello all,
Sorry to revive an old thread, but is it correct that there are no export plates for bikes?

I have a BMW here in Abu Dhabi that I just imported, I had to clear customs through Dubai, so the VCC says Dubai on it. In order to register it in Abu Dhabi I would presumably have to transfer it from Dubai to AD first, at least that was the case with my car that I did a few months ago.  I was planning on driving it back to AD on the export plates to get it registered. However, if it is not possible to get export plates, then that strategy will leave me stranded in Dubai...

Can anybody confirm that it is possible or not to transfer in the normal way? In fact, I thought export plates was a prerequisite to transfer a vehicle from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, as they must be turned in at the vehicle test station upon registration.

Hi!

I still believe, that You cant get transfer plates for a bike in Dubai. But, I was at the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department waiting for export plates last week, and there was a guy who got transfer plates for his KTM, so he was able to ride his bike from AD to Dubai.

Does anybody know, if AD and Dubai have different policies on bike transfer plate, or have the rules changed.

I know for a fact Dubai does not issue export plates for bikes.
To transfer from Dubai to AUH, you will have to go through the same process as that of a car, so the only solution really is to trailer it or put it on a recovery truck.

Yepp. No export plate for bikes in Dubai. Strangely enough.

Fortunately I had UK plates on the bike, valid UK registration as well as valid insurance for the UAE, so I put my trust in the UN conventions that lets foreign registered vehicles drive in other countries. (For a limited time, from my recollection 60 days).

Anyway, I went to dubai, got the transfer paperwork headed back to AD. This week I did the technical inspection, which went very smoothly, and got my license plate. Good to be back on two wheels.

Wondering what would happen if I showed up on my insured bike in Abu Dhabi with Dubai deregistration paperwork (without trailer) to get it registered? Hmmm.........
