Tire Burst !
« on: February 17, 2009, 09:18:48 PM »

Hi Petrolheaders !

Just wondering , what happens when your bike tire/tyre bursts while riding ? Does it explode into small chunks, or just pisses its air out like a baloon? How does it affect you bike's behaviour ?

So far I have survived 3 burst tires at 200kph on the rear , no big drama coz they were all on straights, but I dread thinking if one should happen mid corner or the front tire bursts.

Anyone wants to share their experience?

Now that most bike tyres are tubeless an actual "blowout" is fortunately very rare. Tyres normally go down gradually and you get plenty of warning. To make a tubeless tyre "explode" you would have to run over a sharp piece of metal or something similar and you would know about it before it happened.

Clutch cable broken? If you can't get to your destination without the clutch, you shouldn't be riding a bike.

No worries there ,Jim...I did reach the nearest work shop without the clutch....
My question was ,would there be any risk if the bike was at high speeds and the cable snaps while you shift....

I have had 3 blow outs on bikes. They are not fun.

First one my rear tire lost pressure very quickly and the bike was almost impossible to turn. Just clutch the bike and slowly get off the road.

Second one I ran over a dead dog and burst both tires and bent both rims. That was very nearly a crash. Just clutch it up and get of the road ASAP.
