Does anyone have a noid light I could borrow?
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:48:57 AM »

I've just finished putting my ancient Jeep engine back together after replacing the AC compressor bracket and the AC pulley bearing (major thanks to Mr. Bailey of this parish for the serious help he offered with the bearing ), and now the f****r is running rough and throwing code 27, which means an unspecified fuel injector issue - possibly electrical, possibly mechanical. So it's diagnostic time, and I wondered if anybody has a noid light I might be able to borrow to check that there's power reaching the injectors?

Sorry, I should have said "...to check that there's power reaching any injectors that aren't clicking" ;)

Use the process of elimination.

Swap one that is clicking with one that isn't.

If it was but now isn't, then it is wiring. If it was and is, then it is the one that wasn't. Clear  ;D

Plugging in a noid light would be quicker than swapping injectors :)

I didn't need a noid light in the end. Bought a stethoscope from Golden Tool, discovered that injectors #2 and #3 weren't firing, pulled their plugs and found green corrosion everywhere. A bit of wire brush work and we're back up and running 8)

Good job too, since swapping injectors onto different plugs to see if that made any difference would have been a royal PITA... it might be quick and easy on other cars, but on the old 4.0L Jeep you have to depressurise the fuel rail, remove various fiddly clips and all sorts.
