surface rust removal/protection
« on: February 12, 2012, 04:42:44 PM »

took the rear bumper off to swap for the new one i've had made, and there is a bit of surface rust on the cross member and chassis legs.

just looking at the por15 site to look at the steps involved, but a google search threw up a link to here and it seems it isn't sold.

can anyone recommend a similar product? i have some degreaser, so just need the preparation product and therust preventative.

Ace Hardware sell an acid based rust remover, then I would hit it with some etch (wash) primer.  Got some etch if you need it

There is a hardware store in Ras Al Khor, when coming in from Al Khail road towards Dragon Mart, on the service road just after the gas station, think it's called Khaleej trdg. It's worth if you take a look, you just might find what you're looking for. Good luck!

i just want something to brush on as a topcoat. you won't see the crossmember when the new bumper is on, and that's getting sprayed or, preferably, powder coated.

do national paints have a retail outlet?

Are you serious??? about 4 million I would imagine, and thats in Ras al Khor alone. Every other hardware store is either Jotuns or National.

Purchased some Hammerite type spray paint a few weeks ago in Ace, Straight ahead when you walk in, lower shelf against the wall, Matt Black very nice job to. Take mine if you cant find any more.

I'm such a nice bloke, FFS

i was serious, aye. until very recently i had no need of these shops, now i'm on the lookout for all kinds of stuff!

i saw the spray on paint but seeing as i need the rust treatment i didn't buy it.

at least a trip to ras is a perfectly valid reason to leave work early :D

Yes, right after the military complex or whatever that thing is, get in the service road and having passed the gas station it will be one of the first shops. Just make sure that you don't go there between 1pm and 4pm as there is a big chance they'll be closed.

Noticed in speedex today they have some CRC 'colorgalv' or something like that.

Basically zinc primer and topcoat in one.
