Race Tyres for Rookie - Cost
« on: September 10, 2011, 12:51:46 PM »

Hi, I'm looking to go for my race license next Friday as a rookie (I’m not fast but not slow) I’m looking to get into racing but when I got the calculator out it is veeeeeeeeery expensive for entrance fees and tyres.

In the UK D211's are a fair bit cheaper, and would be cheaper still if I bought a season’s worth of tyres in one go.

Is that allowed? Or can we only get tyres supplied from autodrome?

Looking at ways to reduce this cost, otherwise will probably go in for every other race if that is possible?

There are a lot of people who would consider racing if it was more financially attractive, at the moment it is a very tough financial decision for me to make.

Advice appreciated.

My understanding is that you need to buy the tyres from Dunplop UAE. Lets just say there is a disccusion that has been ongoing for at least 2 years on the cost of tyres.

4.14 Tyres - General Conditions
4.14.1. There will be a controlled Dunlop tyre for each category and solely supplied by the Dunlop Dubai distributor. Refer to 4.14.9

I did the maths on tyres from the UK last year and If I had flown a load out, paid the 5% duty I still could have saved myself 5000dhs over the season.  One of the issues of the rule above is that it is open for Dunlop to supply any old crap that they have laying about, the last race of the season we were supplied with french made tyres, manufactured in 2009....

Its the only circus in town where the clowns pay to entertain, everyone wins/lines pockets paid by the racers.  Dunlop and DAMC have promised that it will change for the next season and new tyres are getting tested as we speak.

Its a huge financial commitment for everyone hence I have yet to sign up for the next season.

G18C,

You can always go for race by race and you are not obliged to participate in all of them.
However, if you want to challenge for a championship then you have to pay AED1500 to be eligible for points,
otherwise, you can just come an race whenever you can afford.
It will be cheaper though for participants who are going for the whole championship registration.
Hope this helps.

Its nice to see its not just the cars getting it from AG (Dunlop)

Well, it looks like moody has already put in a word of concern regarding the high prices for the comparatively inferior quality of tires this season.

It's very obvious that autodrome has to be cautious cause from what the statstics show..the number of bikes on the grid has just been droping every year.
Just hoping that mOody's mail is an eyeopener for autodrome and they work on the prices.
*fingers crossed*

There is a solution to all problems...
In this case, yiou can keep the sport bikes for track days and buy a supermoto!!!

Then you will have straight forward FUN with no b*llshit attached...

Its very simple mate...I am sure you can work it out too!!!
1) Supermoto's dont chew as many tyres as sportbikes do....
2) You don't depend on the AD and Dunlop and their prices...

These are just 2 points...there are many more!!

DAMC have released the revised tyre prices. It seems that you can buy slick tyres as well.

Actually the slick option is only for the 1000cc!
You do get the crappy french ones as an option though  :wanka:, then you can just slide your arse off to the finish line before the end of race 1.  :laff:

Gdog,

I am sure they have enough leftovers from the french stock since last year!!! or the year before  :smiley_banghead:.
They will be more than happy to sell them!

Alan for the benefit of the rookies please could decribe your experience of the French tyres just in case they plan to buy them (they are cheaper aren't they?).
