I'll explain the issue with tyres in general, I need a rant....

Sportmax GP Racer D211 (French Made)
Last years price pair - 1250 AED
Last years price for 2 rears, 1 front - 1800 AED
New Price pair - 1500 AED (20% increase)

These are mass produced tyres manufactured in France and from the research I've done they look to be road based tyres rather than race tyres.   The grip levels are good but wear rate on the rear is too high for a fast race pace.  We used these 2 years ago (and the 2 weekends where Dunlop failed to supply the D211GP last season) and we had to have the rules ammended to allow the 600s to use 2 rears per race weekend as they simply didnt last.
For a first time Rookie these tyres may suit better as they are cheaper and will not be used as hard as the front runners.  I would be asking if Dunlop will still do a deal on 2 rears to 1 front.
*for someone purchasing these, check the date.  We were supplied 2009 manufactured tyres on the last race of last season.

D211 GP NTEC (UK Made)
Last years price pair - 1980 AED
New Price pair - 2105 AED (6.3% increase)

These tyres are made at the UK motorsport factory and are designed as a race tyre.  As above they offer excellent grip levels and a pair will last the weekend and maybe the next test day.
The biggest issue we had about these was the price. This was the main topic of all conversations with the DAMC and Dunlop over the summer.

Some internet prices below, its unknown if these are french or UK made (one easy call) You would have to add shipping and 5% duty but it still works out way cheaper.   I dare say there are deals to be had if buying bulk too.

Presumed to be French product-
Dunlop Sportmax GP Racer D211, www.demon-tweeks.co.uk (no VAT, ex 5.8 ) - 1368 AED
D211GP RACER www.motorcycletyresuk.com (no VAT, ex 5.8 ) - 1285 AED

Presumed to be UK product-
Dunlop D211GP pair N Tec www.arracing.co.uk (no VAT, ex 5.8 ) - 1508 AED
D211 GP Racer Treaded www.mandp.co.uk (no VAT, ex 5.8 ) - 1440 AED

I ask this,  Why is it our local Dunlop supplier think it correct to charge almost 50% higher prices than available to the public elsewhere and why do DAMC force the racers to pay these inflated and unrealistic prices if they want to compete in the championship?

It would be nice if someone could ask this question on my behalf at the Media day on Thursday.  I've invested a huge amount of my own time and money into this championship so I feel the least I am due is an honest answer for these huge price increases.

May I suggest an answer to your querie?
Perhaps it is not only the Manufacture's fault for the prices being so high...it could also be a repercussion of the "joining" fee that Dunlop has to bear in order to be the "sole" supplier for the championship...that makes prices go up...

Who knows...

Anyway, you wouldnt have thiese issues if you all bought a supermoto instead!!

Thank's for all of that alan.
I just hope french ruubber can last us 2 races + qualifing.

As the tyres are cheaper I'll obvs. Go for the french one's, but let's run them on the media day for 3 sessions and see how they are.....

And I have a doubt.............

U said a pair costed 1250, and 2 rears and one front costed 1800.

Do the same rule apply this year aswell ? Do 600's again have the choice of using 2 sets of tyres ?? ???

Alan mate,

I would be more than happy to ask the question for you , but I doubt very much to attend the test day. I will be there on Friday though.

Surya,

I think you guys should be fine as per a novice pace, but anyhow, try them and you can judge by the end of the sessions. The French front had no issues though, it was just the rear.

ok, not to beat a dead horse any further, since AD has opened up the doors to acquiring tyres from outside as long as they meet the specs, why not setup a group buy with all racers to get these from the UK?

I'm game for this, anyone else?

by the prices we have here looks like, who likes going faster will going to have to pay more or slow it down a little.

Too my all brothers rookies: For example if track runs clockwise just like in autodrome, same tires can be used on trackdays just turn them over and go. My friends use to do that, and no one had ever complained about it.
Tire warmers helps to safe robber if you came out on track on warm tire it last a bit longer.
Harder compound another option.

P.S. we all in the same shittuation.. my English is not very good so sorry if I misspelled a bit.  :hiding:

So the BS with tyres at the UAE race champs is still on going huh?

We had the (mis)fortune a few years ago to have the opportunity to bid on being the sole tyre supplier for the UAE bike series. If the organisers are the same guys as a few years ago then trust me guys its not dunlop ripping you off - its the series organisers. Dunlop have inflated their prices to cover their "cost" for sponsoring the race series.

Back when it was an open market (only about 4 or 5 years ago) we supplied Pirelli SuperCorsa Pros for less than 1200 a set, and we made a sustainable margin. We always had stock and had multiple compound options avaialbe. We also fitted the tyre for free and helped with tech support and advise.
