« on: July 19, 2011, 03:28:30 PM »

Well, there has not been any news about thelong awaited 'ROOKIE CUP'.
And quite frankly, it just might be because there aren't enough heads showing interest in it.

If there is someone who is interested please post here.

mate i think the  rookie they mean is the new entering racer to 600 cc championship which is the regular one. chillz is hunting info that said tehy might start a total new championship for rookies (bikers of levels lower than the racers out there)

The Rookie cup is intended to run within the existing championship as a different class, for those new to bike racing.

I personally feel a new class should be introduced for us rookie riders for 2 reasons.

(1): if there is no rookie cup, all the riders who are new to the racing world will be forced to join the 600's on the track. And being new to the word 'racing' they will not have any experience on things like, how to go about the 1st turn safely without crashing into a mate rider, how to ride when under pressure due to the racer behind and simmilar things.
The fact remains, the first timmers will not be doing laps of 1:09 on the club circuts like the experienced racers.
So,1 or 2 ammature racers in the pack of 13 experienced racers can put many foe's at risks including themselves.... So won't it be good if they were in a diffrent class ! ? This would assure everyone's saftey and both the classes of racers can go with their own flow and pace.

(2): if an ammature racer is forced to race with the racers in the 600's then there will be no motivating factor for him because he won't finish anything better than 10th. On the other hand he might start getting lapped by the racers which becomes really embarassing.
And this mite just make him loose interest and quit racing.

It's just a personal thought, please correct me if I'am wrong.

you will even be riding with the 1000CC's in the same race, therefore DAMC is getting you through the race license assessment. they will not permit any riders who may cause a risk to themselves or others during the race. A separate rookie race would be a nice idea, but I reckon it will not happen, simply because of time constraints during a race day/weekend. only my opinion, do not know what is planned at all.

We are all entitled to our opinions, but consider this;

There are not enough rookies to make a race and there's no room on a raceday for two more races either, especially not comprising of a handful of slow riders, that's what track days are for.

You have to start sometimes, bike racing is a dangerous sport for grownups and there's no "easy" way in.
How do you think this series started in 2006? (It was 9 riders of varying abilities).

If you're "embarrassed" about being lapped, you have to re-consider whether this is the sport for you. If you are not fast enough or unsafe you won't get your race licence anyway.

Finally, the fastest of the rookies will one day be a "racer" himself. This should be motivation enough. Look at Gernot, a rookie himself last season, he got a podium, then a win, and now into the 1000cc class......

i wouldnt worry too much, guys. I completely agree with Jim. I did the same last year. Got on my bike, lined up on the grid and had my biggest adrenaline rush of my life when the lights went off and everybody was flying into corner 1 together at the same time. Sublime feeling.
Better be a racer once in a lifetime than being a spectator forever.

True that mate, but if there are new racer in the grid along with 600's and the mighty 1000's don't you think that all the fast guys will face a big slow problem ?
@Gernot- was talking to george today, he told me how he lost a race to rod scott because of a slower dude who screwd up george's lead. Hahahah !
It won't really be a happy  sight if one of us slower dude's costed you your title mate . :D, :p

mates ive seen gernot racing and frankly am surprised it was his first season cuz he used to give good competition  however am sure it wasnt his first season of riding though
my point is for "racers wanna be",i believe you should be doing lots and lots and lots of track days where u can sharpen your skills and get more familiar and into the atmosphere of track riding
advance from group B to A and then when your keepin up with fellow riders/racers of group A then you might start thinking of joining races.
@chillz,hazim: i dunno if you have watched championship races before but i tell you mate, these guys are fast i mean FAST.
i do understand, admire and respect your excitment as i do have the same but lets face it gents its not easy and fast like a credit card swap. do believe that the road is still
long for US, so lets just focus now on getting faster on track days and enjoy all the free priceless advises and support from racers and sport supporters like Jimdrane.
and in a season or two am sure will see some of you on the grid. :fing34:

Guys,

For those of you who are joining the Rookies cup, you have to start somewhere, as long as you have done good amount of trackdays you should be fine. Being Lapped by other racers is a common thing in racing, there is nothing to be ashamed of, and it happens to all of us! its the only way you will improve. as long as you follow the rules and watch out for flags, as in blue when you are being overtaken, no crazy sudden moves, all will go smoothly.
Experienced racers will pass by without you even having the time to panic, they know their lines, judge their speed, etc...you guys will have your own battles within the same grid and most of the races will happen on the longer circuits so you dont get lapped too much.

Do the track sessions and test, relax and have fun, no stress. Everyone who have finished on the podium has been at the end of the pile sometime.
That is racing and that what makes it so good!

Best,
Moody # 10

I'm sure I was lapped more than once last season and dead last once....

I recal being lapped continusly in my first season but also fondly recal having battles for the second to last and last place. Not all the best races happens at the front!
