Track days Rookie
« on: September 22, 2011, 11:31:06 PM »

Hi guys,

Almost 1year in Dubai and would like to start bike track days (used to ride on track at home on a humble CB500 :) )
So i have some questions and i am looking for advices from the experts.
As it has been a long time that i didn't ride and would like to start with a 600 supersport  muppet
So would rather get trained to remember the basics and feel confident with the bike. Is their any alternative to California Superbike School as their next sessions don't fit my agenda ?

Any advice about insurance for track days ?
As i have seen lot of sands on open roads, is it the same thing on track ? What about adherence on Autodrome ?
Looking for a cheap 600 to start; any clue where i can find used bike in Dubai a part Dubizzle ?

In advance thank you for your help and for sharing tips  :fing34:

Hi, dubizzle is a bit risky unless you know the person or bikes history through friends of friends. A lot of bikes are never serviced, untwisted in sharjah, and abused having the hell revved out of them (i often hear bikes being held against the rev limiter at night). Insist on a full service history receipts then you know the person is serious about looking after their bike.

600cc is good, i took my 1000cc on the track and can say i much prefer my 600cc and its actually more fun (on the club circuit at least).

Track day insurance i dont know, try sun insurance http://www.sunins.ae/.

Sand on roads is bad, i broke my wrist when i motorcrossed my superbike over a sand drift on a corner. Although it can be a bit slippery with the sand at times if the track has not been used, you dont get the sand drifts and for sure if you did come off you are much safer doing so on the track than going into a barrier on the road!

If you have any other questions fire away.

Cheers

Silvergroover, welcome to the 'Nuthouse"  a warm & fuzzy place with a difference...

Glad to have another victim aboard this rocky little ship, especially another biker type person  :fing34:

AS for getting yourself a suitable machine, as Chris says, try find one that you know the history of rather than getting something from the classifieds....The water is very murky out here with very little chance of any comeback if you get a 'pup'.... :help:

As for the track, the sand is an issue but the AD does have a blower which they clean the track with as and when needed....Usually the cars clear the track before the bikes go and therefore it is not as bad as you would think but, off line it can be like riding on marbles

A 600 would be the perfect bike as the bigger bikes are not that much quicker in most cases. The race guy's make them shift but there are only a few of them out there, track days are more controlled and therefore any size is OK as you will find a group that suits your ability  :)

Good luck and happy riding mate  :fing34:

Thanks guys for your welcome  :)
The issue for me is i don't know know any trusty fellow with a bike to sell...
I already called some bike for sale found on Dubbizle and noticed no one had service history: Waouw
I tried yesterday to spot the used bike dealers in Sharjah, but unfortunatelly found myself lost in the chaotic industrial zone.
Will try next saturday the shop next to Tristar on the road to Al Khor.

Will let you know. Till then will have a look at next track day.

Hi Silvergroover,

I have my post on bike for sale. Check it out and you could ask all from Dubai autodrome riders on the condition. It is maintained by Probikes - Aldrin Prabhakar and is in mint conditions. Please find below the link.

Thanks.
