The prices we are forced to pay (if we wish to score points) are totally unjustifiable. I spent a lot of time last year discussing this topic with them on all of our behalf but ultimately they gave us the finger and told us to like it or leave it. What irritates me the most is that the money is going somewhere yet nobody has the b*lls to admit it or explain it to us ... clearly we are not worthy.

Shadow, FYI if I use 1 set of rubber per car per weekend and I am overcharged by Aed 2,000 per set that's a minimum of Aed 16,000 per season (excluding testing days and punctures etc) that I'm paying over the odds for each car .... hardly pocket change.

But if you were trying to wind us all up then you should know that it worked  ;D

worst case for me ill buy all my tires during the 24hr!!??  :smack:

Cunning plan Baldrick except half the season will be over by then!  :bugerit:

Ah but we have sets from LAST years 24hr race..... OK they might be for the BMW but where there is a will there is a away (or a big hammer!).

Spencer, you "friends" are trying to mislead you, you can buy tyres every year at the 24 Hours and use them for a year, not only for the remainder of the season  :deal:

Ah, Simmo hits the nail on the head with the points scoring thing. ;)

Nice little piece of fine print in the regs that says 'you pay or no play'.

The principle of a control tire is great in principle (ahem) and I'm not saying that anyone is deliberately taking advantage of this virtual monopoly, but it's crazy how this topic manages to come up at the last minute every year in spite of there being plenty of time to sort stuff like this out.

If things are truly as shiny for UAE motorsports as we're supposed to believe then you'd think that organizing stuff like rubber would be pretty easy.

16k - certainly not pocket lint. I've had whole cara that cost less :laff:

Shadow

I would really like to hear from an expert like you on how to "sort things out with Dunlop"??
You might want to advise Simmo as well, since both his attempts in the last two years failed, looks lige the guy does not know how to talk to them, your expert input might help us resolve this burning issue  :swivel:

Your comprehension skills are rustier than a 1983 Accord, Z. :laff:

I've actually been ratting on here about how there really isn't much you CAN do about Dunlop and how futile it is having everyone complain at the last minute every year about something as stupid at tire logistics and pricing whilst folks crow how wonderfully advanced the state of motorsport is here.

I have NOT been claiming to know what to do about it. Surely the 'PROs' (I mean Dunlop of course) should be able to manage that one a bit better than they have historically, which is precisely the point.

Yep, that's exactly the position everybody's stuck in.

Whole thread illustrated in pictures - nice one, Z! :laff:

Serious take - and a (hopefully positive and constructive) plea to Dunlop:

- The series sponsorship has been public knowledge for many months now so there's been ample opportunity to plan out the whole supplying-of-rubber thing.

- List is already available for the Dubai 24hrs in January 2012 so why is September 2011 never feasible, especially given the supposedly high profile of UAE National Racing?

- Folks like Mr. Simmo regularly offer to help out sourcing tires every year but are always rebuffed. If not because things are already planned for and under control then why?

- Dunlop actually makes money out if this (apparently). Isn't that a good enough motivation?

Supporting National Racing as a tire sponsor is a great and welcome move in addition to the  brand exposure but the association could be much more beneficial for Dunlop if they learned to nail the execution!

Not sure what the story is behind the scenes but whatever it is the Dunlop management ought to know that their flawed execution is only hurting themselves as much as it irritates competitors (who are also customers).

In this day and age it's common knowledge that there's more to good marketing than just sticking up logos. Surely the potential for strong brand engagement - positive word of mouth and genuine brand advocacy among folks who are at the forefront of UAE motorsports as well as being vendors of high end automotive products in many cases - is worth something?

Much good has been said about the Dunlop boys in the past so hopefully they'll rise up to the challenge and get better in the future. If so, then everybody wins!

As is they do deserve a good and proper trolling on the internets though at the very least.
