IN-CAR TECHNOLOGY
« on: September 14, 2011, 10:54:41 AM »

As shameless plugs seem to be the order of the day I thought I would join in!

I have a number of in-car technology products to aid driver safety. These include serveillance cameras and handsfree devices that can be integrated into the command centre of your vehicle or as part of the rear view mirror. Especially useful if your car is not provided with these as standard. Some of the units also support MP3 players such as I-pods.

A camera that might be of interest to Track Day users and also handy for everyday use is the Blackvue (Vehicle Drive Recorder) which can include GPS positioning. This device can record your track day experience, provide speed data, provide accurate GPS postioning, voice recording, recordings are kept on a mini SD card which can be downloaded to your computer. For every day use this device will record an accident should you be unfortunate to be involved in one and also record when your car is parked during the daytime or at night in the event of your vehicle being vandalised or hit by another vehicle.
Cost of the GPS version is AED.1,200.00 and non GPS AED.1,100.00.

There have been recent court cases where drivers have been accused of flicking a finger or using their mobile phone (mobile phone use while driving now carries a mandatory AED.800.00 fine). The View-I camera has 2 cameras, one recording the road ahead and the other recording what is going on inside the vehicle. This camera does everything the Blackvue GPS version does except record when the car is parked. The data recorded on this unit is encrypted so cannot be tampered with.
Cost of this unit is AED.1,650.00.

Both of these units are excellent for providing evidence in the case of accidents particularly when lane changing without signalling is prevalent in the UAE and you hit the back of the car that takes your braking space.

Anyone interested in these units can send me an email at rubicontrading@rakfzbc.ae or call 050-5531340.

A website is under construction and will eventually allow purchases on line.

Thanks.

The technology is, without a doubt, fantastic. But what if the filth get hold of it and find out you've been speeding? (Perish the thought, it's just that we're Petrolheads by definition)

It works both ways, it's as good as it is bad. That's the trouble with technology

Without stating the obvious answer about speeding!! You can disable the speed recording or use the non-GPS version.
