Leave our Sponsors!
« on: September 24, 2011, 05:10:05 PM »

So here we are ... trying our best to get sponsors in the ME ... Who do we approach first? Automotive brands ... And in the automotive industry there are many brands competing, hence if one sponsors the series, it closes doors for other brands to associate with the driver, forget the series!

2 seasons back, We had Mobil supporting the TEAM, but we couldn't continue the relation because TOTAL took the title sponsorship for the series. Same is the story with Yokohama, they do sponsor us, and we use the product for testing and track days sometimes, but we can't use it for racing, We were once told to remove YOKOHAMA branding, because Dunlop is the "Tire Supplier" ... but to my understanding they are not the sponsors?  ???

Last season it took me a while to convince "A" sponsor, later they saw the coverage and the ROI for the same, were quite delighted to continue this year.... guess what? The organizers approach them for a title sponsorship and they crack the deal!

We are not against the organizers to get sponsors, at the end of the day it is business for them. But it would be better for them to get non-automotive brands for the series sponsorships, because those brands will get more coverage from a series than a single car, and leave the automotive aside for drivers OR keep it open for all brands. It will be easy for DA to convince a non automotive brand for the whole series compared to us doing the same for a team/driver.

We all know the motor sports is developing here, these things also go hand in hand and should be looked into!

They could be a tad more creative too, not just look at our cars in getting ideas for potential sponsors. Another bitter pill...

Surprised they've never got one of the Newspapers to sponsor it, just extra press coverage alone you think would be worth it and lead on to expanding the possibilities of sponsors for the DA and the competitors.

Am sure they tried newspaper as well... but easy way out was to spot companies who have taken the initiative in sponsoring drivers, tap them first and then anything else!

One side increased prices for tires, racing remains same, pay for being late registration ... and then take our sponsors as well? and then dont allow our sponsors to brand vehicles if they are competitive brands to brands that are sponsoring the series.

They should :
- Seriously consider opening the tires, whoever can bring own supply, let them.
- Give something back to the drivers / teams.
- Reduce racing fee, more and more drivers / teams are coming on, it should compensate? this wont make much difference to us, but will be good for new comers?

Print media does not make money.  They need advertising revenue not the other way round.

They should offer space on the track and around the track, as an incentive, once other brands see competitive brands on track, the ball will roll automatically. In the begining you will have to give some to get some back in future.

I know its different when you are working there and things look difficult and it easy for outsiders to sit and comment and tell them what all they can do. But i have surely noticed, few basic things are not done.

In the meantime Yokohama won't sponsor you and me anymore coz' of the official tyre issue, and we lost the opportunity for NGK's support since DA went sponsor hunting behind our backs, targeting companies that already sponsor participants of their championship???? Very nice!

Similar things happened with Yellow Hat and Total that were first sponsoring individuals and then were offered to sponsor a championship.

It is a huge market out there, zillions of good companies, could the ones sponsoring the race drivers be left alone????

Just to say,

Most title Sponsors also support an 'Anchor Team' in a championship to be the face for the brand, so title sponsorship shouldnt effect you, it should help you, NGK should know that they need both in such a small market - ( unless they going to make everyone use free NGK plugs as a product sponsor for the championship)

also did you have non-circumvention clause in your sponsor contract ? suggest you get one

I would disagree with that statement since i had approached a few of those championship sponsors and they all stated that they can not be supporting a single car/team in a championship they already sponsor.

What happened in this case only made us lose the NGK support that was almost finalised before DA came in to spoil the party. The minimum of courtesy would have been to ask Umair whether he minds DA approaching NGK, being currently under their sponsorship.

I will probably have to miss this championship this year since i have not been able to secure additional funds enabling me to meet the expenses for the racing season. DA knows very well that most teams are financed from own pockets, therefore they should stay clear of our sponsors and even offer some help in finding new ones, in order to have larger grids rather than smaller. Disappointing!

Sorry to hear that Zlatko.  Looks like much reduced grid sizes all round.

I'm wondering if there's anyone racing in the GTs this season....

Yes its a shame, i do sympathise, Im stating 'Most sponsors' not especially yours, as i dont know your contract details.

however DA might have a clause in their Title sponsors contract to say they are the sole beneficiary of that sponsor dollar,

which means that yes the Title sponsors you approached who are under contract to the DA are only going to the letter of the contract they have with the promoter ie DA

Just to make you feel better (or worse) this happens all over the world you are not alone......

Well i hope everyone is feeling better, lets race and forget the BS.  I have paid for my HOBBY from day one, if you cant afford it don't race, change your hobby to chess or tennis.  Lets not forget this is still alot cheaper than racing in the UK. I for one has done some Britt car and that's not cheap.

Alan Boyter had Yas last year i am going to approach the AD for sponsorship this year  :woo: :woo: :yo: :yo: :nana: :nana: :smokin: :smokin: :laff: :laff:
