competent audi specialist?
« on: January 16, 2012, 09:34:25 AM »

Anyone know of a competent audi specialist that could be trusted to sort out my leaking air suspension? I just know that the stealers will want to replace every single component, starting with the compressor (which works just fine) without even checking for leaks, resulting in an enormous bill.

I've tried troubleshooting myself and have narrowed it down to the front right corner (rear still lifts fine) but don't want to run it too long like this as it WILL burn out the compressor (new part alone costs 6000dhs UK price, so more like 10k here!) - but am unable to diagnose further as a) the car sits so low that I can't get a trolley jack underneath and b) if I park it on the kerb to enable me to jack it up /  remove the wheel, the system detects that the limits have been exceeded and disables itself!

Update - After some judicious use of ja**ing mode, kerb corners, various pieces of wood and some ingenuity, I finally managed to get the car raised with the system active to have a look.

Having sprayed on some soapy water, the only place I can see bubbles coming from is within the red circle - which I assume is an integral part of the shock? Anyone know? Hope not  as they cost a small fortune!

p.s. Biggles, do you have a problem with the adjective of the word "jack"? Keeps getting "modified"!

Someone on one of the audi forums has suggested using jb weld or a similar cold welding epoxy on it - anyone know if such a thing is available here?

As well as epoxy can you get a large hose clamp around the main body to help give something to back up the epoxy and stop it being blown off ?

The expoxy is holding fine but the leak appears to be INSIDE the damper - I think the symptom of leaking via the valve was just that. Damn. Looks like a new damper to me!
