Last year it was OK.
How ever I was amazed of the fact that the bikes on parking area were all tried by thousands of people..
They were taking photos of themselves sitting on a bike that somebody has build with unnumerous hours.
This would never happen in where I come from..

On the other hand if you leave the two wheeler home it is good opportunity for a couple of

I received a mail inviting bikers for a Thunder Parade at 2:00 pm on Friday - if you're interested, register online (http://www.gulfbikefestival.com/thunder_parade.htm?#Register ) or at site before the parade at 1:00pm. Its a charity ride for the Dubai Autism. Participating bikers are expected to make a modest donation...

Another update received from the Thunder Parade organisers:

Looking forward to another run of Gulf Bike Festival 2010!

The Thunder Parade is on Friday the 5th of Feb as a part of the Gulf Bike Festival 2010.

The Thunder Parade is a rare event. Hundreds of motorcycles line the streets in a procession-style ride unless you're a celebrity of some kind, you don't generally get to experience something like this - thousands of locals and visitors lining the streets to cheer you on, simply for doing something you love. You have to experience it to know what it's like.

From 2:00pm on the Friday afternoon some of the streets of Dubai will be partially shut to allow for the participating motorcycles to ride a group ride to Jebel Ali and Back. This ride is become a major event that is well attended by motorcyclists from all over the region.

Entertainment and street vendors commence from 12:00 hours , to help entertain and feed the gathering motorcyclists, before the 14.00 wave off.

Dubai Autism Center, was the charity which benefited from the 2009 Parade.

Dubai Autism Center will have a stand to raise awareness of the battle that children and it's activities, in the parking of the Thunder Parade and at the Gulf Bike Festival 2010.

Each rider/participant will be requested to make a donation of up to 100aed per bike on the day to the team from Dubai Autism. Riders will receive participation numbers and identification from Dubai Autism. “Thunder Parade” strives to raise awareness of the battle that children with ASD endure throughout their lives and riders at the Gulf Bike Expo will come together as a community to help deliver awareness for autism.

The Parade is led off by Dubai Police, who will set the pace, followed by the VIP guest then the gathered riders and pillions. The Thunder Parade will have ride marshals interspersed throughout the group to monitor and help maintain the pace set by the lead riders.

As the 2009 ride was spoiled for some, subsequently we worked hard to alleviate the burden that some suffered, we wish to make everyone aware that regular road rules still apply for this ride. Whilst we have been assured that Salik will be off along the Parade route, everyone should treat the ride as though their likelihood. This year the MRA is taking the stance, that riders are responsible for their own actions.

* Take direction from the marshal closest to you.
* An Thunder Parade marshal will direct you to a parking space. Ensure that your motorbike is parked as requested by the marshal

Ride Safety information

The event area is subject to heavy traffic changes and caution must be taken

Riding in a group is an exciting activity and requires greater concentration than riding on your own. The Thunder Parade organisers ask that you adhere to the following guidelines in order to keep the ride safe, cohesive and enjoyable for all participating:

* Ensure that you adhere to all the normal road rules and speed limits.
* Ensure that the motorcycle that you are riding is mechanically safe and legally roadworthy.
* The event will be lead by Dubai Police. Do not overtake the Dubai Police.
* A motorcycle requires a full lane in which to operate safely. Ride in a staggered formation, not side-by-side.
* The Thunder Parade marshals will ride with the group. One marshal will be nominated to ride at the rear of the group. It is the marshal's responsibility to ensure that the riders don't get lost and to render assistance if necessary.
* The group as a whole must not stop for an individual as it can be dangerous to have the whole group stop on the side of the road. The "Tail End" marshal will give assistance.
* If, in the case of an emergency you need to stop as a group, be sure to stop well off the road.
* Always signal your intention to change lanes. Keep a safe distance behind the next rider. Check in your mirrors often and concentrate on your riding.
* If every rider can see the rider ahead of him or her, the group should not get split up. Adjust your speed to do so.
* Keep the group together on the road, don't lag behind.
*Ensure that you adhere to all the normal road rules and speed limits.

Please remember to arrive at the departure point with a full tank of fuel. Departure time is 14:00.

Salik. Hmmm...an interesting question for anyone whose bike doesn't have a Salik tag.

SpyderMan quotes: "Whilst we have been assured that Salik will be off along the Parade route, everyone should treat the ride as though their likelihood." so it's anybody's guess what happens when the violations start rolling in after a fortnight or so...

Am I the ony one struggling to register for the "Thunder Parade"? I fill in the form and click the button, only to be advised that there's some form of HTTP 500 Internal error. Hopefully, entrants can be sorted out on the day.

Hi KIB, Grumpy Goat and mukks,

About the SALIK, don't shoot the messenger - I realise the message is a bit unclear, but I just pasted what I received in my mail.

Regarding the registration, I'm not sure why your log-in attempts failed - mine got through fine;in fact thats probably why they sent me the subsequent mail detailing the ride.

Cut to chase, I'm sure this can be sorted out on site on Friday (fingers crossed!).

See ya guys then...
