used car from Dubai, Registration in Abudhabi - procedure
« on: June 19, 2010, 09:51:07 AM »

hi everyone,
I am planning to buy a used car from Dubai.

But my visa is from Abudhabi. So I think I will have to register it in Abudhabi.

Please - Can anyone tell the procedure?

Hi drsb,
I have a visa in Dubai but i live in Al Ain and i registered my Hummer last week in Al Ain. This is how it works, if you LIVE in Dubai but have your visa in Abu Dhabi, you can register the car in Dubai, you need a letter from your sponsor/company to say that because you live and work in Dubai you can register your car in Dubai.
However, if you LIVE and work in Abu Dhabi you MUST register your car in Abu Dhabi, for this you need to export the car to abu dhabi from Dubai, any traffic department can help you do this in Dubai. Its not difficult and if the car is in good condition you have no worries.

I hope this helps.

I live and work in Abudhabi.
I am planning to buy a car from Dubai.

So - could you please explain the whole procedure in detail??.
To where should the original owner come - and sign the papers??, At which stage I can pay the earlier owner?
What all to be done, where all to be gone- please explain in detail.

Hi, drsb,
This is the process i followed, it may vary slightly in Dubai but not much unless they changed the rules since last week, which is very possible in this country.

You can pay the owner anytime you like.

You will need the following documentation,
1. Three copies of your passport and visa, also the original.
2. Three CLEAR copies of your drivers license and the original.
3. A completed ownership transfer form that you will get from the Dubai Traffic Police (this form should be filled in by the owner).
4. Proof that the fines have been paid from Dubai Traffic Police.
5. Copy of the owners registration papers that show the car is not owned by the bank.

Then, at the DTP get an export permission form, pay the fees and transport the car to the Abu Dhabi Traffic Police, then roadworthy the car at the Abu Dhabi Traffic Police, then get insurance for the car in YOUR name. Then register the car at the Abu Dhabi Traffic police in your name. You will need all the papers listed and about 500Dhs to cover all the costs.

Good Luck.
