Thanks Denny, just on my travels at the moment, so will have a look at it when I get home.  Will have to convert to AFR as Lambda means nothing to me.  The only Caterham Duratec I have seen was mapped at 13.0:1  I don't have to worry much about emissions here in Dubai, so just want to get good reliable power.  Car ticks over nicely at 1000rpm  :fing34:

Neil,

A couple of points/questions :)

1) Where have you placed the wideband in the exhaust system?

2) An AFR of 13.0:1 seems quite lean to me, although my experience is with Japanese turbo engines (Subaru) - where at full boost I would expect to see around 10.5:1, although we are using some of the extra fuel to cool the inlet charge (especially in high boost applications), and they are detonation prone.

3) Are you using any form of detonation detection, particularly during mapping?

One concern of using a single wideband is ensuring that the AFR's for each cylinder are equal, as you are currently measuring an average of all 4. Maybe having the injectors flow tested for equal flow at say 50% duty cycle maybe in the interests of longevity, along with a good old 'plug chop' when out testing.

Another Neil - who is also planning on a Duratech Caterham - so get yours sorted!

I have the Wideband boss just after the manifold before the silencer.
Good idea about checking the injectors for flow, don't know if I can get this done in Dubai.
The AFR of 13.0 was what I saw a Duratec being mapped at by a guy called Steve Greenald in the UK, he is a bit of a legend for mapping Caterhams.
My car will not run at all at 10.5:1
Plug colours look good.

The guys at AAT in Sharjah are supposed to have injector flow testing machinery - at least they promised to have tested my 2nd hand (from the UK) injectors before fitting them! They also have injector cleaning equipment, although I'm sure yours are shiny clean :)

Contact Karam on 050-848-5308 and tell him that Neil with the silver Subaru sent you...

1: Ran a trackday with the ECU running in adaptive mode, managed to map many of the full throttle sites and all in all the car ran very well.  Noticeable improvement in throttle response as the sessions ran on, with about 30-40 sites tweaked by the process.  Very pleased with the ECU's performance  :fing34:

2: Started out this week to fit a switch to allow for the map switching function of the Emerald ECU.  Intended to fit a 3-way switch but could not find the requisite resistors that I bought about 6 months ago  :smiley_banghead:  So decided to fit a simpler 2-way map switch (that switches between map 1 & map 3).  Map 1 is set up for adaptive mapping with a higher rev limit.  Map 3 (the other choice) is set up without adaptive and a lower rev limit.  This can be used if I phuq up my primary map (because of possible bad input from wide band O2 sensor) and also to allow others to drive the car with no danger of over-revving or having a map go funny on them while driving.  System works as advertised and you can switch them while driving, with no noticeable transition between maps.
