Originally posted in 'Bike Chat' but I've realised it should have been here for the DMX riders.
This was my first attempt to shoot any sort of motorsport at night so it was a bit of a steep learning curve, with some things working exactly as I expected, some working out better and many being a total waste of battery power and effort. Ah well, you live and learn.

Apologies to the handful of you I shot with front facing flash (rider #20 particularly) as you were landing jumps – schoolboy mistake on my part, not to be repeated.

The problem with spending 5 hours getting these shots and being pleased overall with what I got, but knowing how I can do better, is that today I added up the list of additional equipment I’ve decided I need to do this properly. So far the bill is $ 1,200 and some custom made telescopic flash stands so I can catch the bikes properly mid jump. Still, maybe I can rent them out to a small furry creature I know lurks in these environs…..oh no, he'll claim he's down to his last million and can't afford the rent...

Ansell goes arty farty;

Show off........

Thanks Sean for the track, Jayne for letting me wander round camera in hand, and to Brad for the jump start on the clunker of a Ford Focus I’d borrowed last night.
The whole gallery of 27 shots is here:
www.slrpm.com and prints of the hi-res versions of these shots are available if you cross my palm with silver. Hell, I've got to raise the $ 1,200 somehow!
