UAE Motorsport - The way forward ?
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:07:17 PM »

As competitors, we have all made significant investments into motorsport (within our own budgets). At present we are witnessing a decline in grids and as stakeholders we should do something about it collectively.

I am prepared to organize an open discussion with all competitors at a central location. Depending on the response, we may have to rent a room at a venue, but I will wait and see the response.

The discussions would ideally focus on what we would like to see happen with our sport and how we could all contribute to moving it forward.

If we have points that need to be raised with the organizers, then I am happy to take these to them, with a select group to discuss.

I do not want to start a debate on here, I would prefer you respond with a yes or no and we can then organize a venue to start the discussions.

Whilst I am happy to organize this, I do not expect to be the sole spokesperson. I would like to see every competitor contribute and then we decide which are the priorities.

We will never get anywhere or be taken seriously if we all moan to each other, but then do nothing about it to rectify the concerns we have.

Over to you guys to respond.

Yes, perhaps the media room at the Autodrome could be used?

Yes, but it would be wiser to keep the current race organizers out of the picture until the competitors identify the problems and suggest a better way forward.
Thanks for initiating this!  :fing34:

I might get us a venue at Dubai Marine hotel

Hello Everyone,

this is a great initiative, and i would like to offer a venue at the YAS Racing School. if Da Rule Maker can organise a time which every one agrees on we can book one of the conference rooms for the meeting.

i would suggest that YAS is not the venue as we need to keep this to competitors only.  Saying that i dont think i will attend.
Good luck

As a new competitor in the UAE GT (EMAL Porsche 968)  both me, Graeme and our employees have spent a small fortune on making this all possible. Having been refused from the onset to join the Touring Cars it was after the first race in the GT championship we were told that we were too slow and our performance would be monitored over the next few races with the likelyhood that we would not be able to compete.  So with the declining grids and the GT joining the Touring cars our future in racing does not look good.  What next year will bring is a concern and I would welcome sitting down to have a chat.

I know that were are not in the Ferrari or Lambo league but I think we can be proud of what we have achieved with a 20 year old car and all we want is to enjoy and have fun competing.  The friends that we have met and helped us has been so nice so please keep that going,

Thanks

My intentions at this point is for competitors only to attend.

Whilst I feel that there is a place for the organizers, I feel that this first meeting should be totally independent from media, circuits or organizers as I would want the view from the competitors first.

As I have said, the purpose is to collate the views of the competitors and then see how we can move this forward.

You seem to be concentrating on the competitors who are becoming an endangered species. Definitely examine why they are becoming so. But track down those who have left and see why, invite them to air their grievances.
Additionally if you want to bring more people to the sport, would it not be a good idea to invite people who want to become competitors and listen to their reasons for not being able to get to the grid.
Sounds like there is a need for a motorsport (C--b) association.
